Maternity Photography

There is nothing in this world more precious and beautiful than a mother carrying child. Maternity photography sessions allow the mother-to-be to reflect back on her pregnancy, years after she holds her baby for the first time. Maternity sessions are an intimate time where the photographer should capture all of the natural beauty of a pregnant mother, while at the same time being very discrete. Silhouettes are a an ideal way to show off the expectant mother's curves and also leaves some mystery to her figure. It is also important to talk to the mother-to-be in a soft voice to keep her calm and relaxed for her photography session. Some great tips for hosting maternity sessions are to have a large piece of foam to lay under the backdrop to keep her comfortable and also to have a pillow handy for extra support. Plan your client's session to where she can take a rest if she needs to. Having the privilege to photograph a pregnancy is a rare and beautiful experience. Perrone Photography prides itself on providing the client a private, comfortable, and relaxed atmosphere to capture her memories for a life time.

Cosplay Halloween Shoot

A few weeks ago, we went on location to Lake Eola, FL where we met a fun and interesting group of Cosplayers. We were invited by a group organizer in Orlando to photograph this amazing event. I can honestly say, that was the most creative fun we have ever had on a shoot. We were introduced to several familiar characters, from Dragonball Z to the amazing all American Avengers squad, and even met some new characters we had not heard of. There were a broad range of characters and they were all quite good with their respective rolls.

After utilizing the beautiful outdoor scenery of Lake Eola, we moved on to the ever popular and rustic, Church Street Station, where we were lucky enough to photograph in an area unavailable to the general public. All of our work from the day is posted on our website www.perronephotography.com , under the galleries tab. We also decided that this shoot was so much fun, we created a Deviant Art profile to bring in more interest for Cosplay enthusiasts. If you are visiting www.deviantart.com, type Perronephotography in the search field to view our work or click here to go directly to our Deviant Art page

In case you are wondering what Cosplay actually is, it is a style of performance art in which participants make a costume that represents a specific character. Cosplay is short for “costume play” and was made popular in the early 90’s by Japanese performance artists.

Space Shuttle Endeavour's Last Flight

Space Shuttle Endeavour was build in 1991 as NASA's final shuttle replacing Challenger costing $2.2 billion dollars. Endeavour first flew in May 7th 1992 on mission STS-49 and flew its last mission on May 16th 2011 on mission STS-134. In 1993 Endeavour made the first service mission to repair the famous Hubble Space Telescope. Endeavour flew 25 missions and spend a total of 296 days 3 hours 34 minutes and 2 seconds in space. Endeavour also orbited the earth an amazing 4,677 times. Endeavour was named after a ship chartered to traverse the South Pacific in 1768 and captained by 18th century British explorer James Cook, an experienced seaman, navigator and amateur astronomer (source Kennedy Space Center Website).
After moving to Merritt Island in 1996 I fell in love with Space Shuttle launches. There is nothing like seeing a launch in person from your back yard, the school playground or up close at one of NASA's viewing sites. To hear the rumble of the engines as they thrust the shuttle and astronuats into space is definetly an amazing sound and feeling.

Here is a photo I took from my back yard of Endeavour lifting off from Kennedy Space Center on July 15th 2009 on mission STS-127 spending 15 days and 16 hours in space. This mission Endeavour took parts to the International Space Station (ISS) with a crew of 7 astronauts.

Below is a 7 min and 23 sec exposure of Shuttle Endeavour taking off from Kennedy Space Center in Florida. This mission was STS-130 where Endeavour spent 13 days and 18 hours in orbit. STS-130 took parts to the International Space Station (ISS) and carried a crew of 6.
STS-130 Morning Launch to ISS Feb. 8th 2010

Now that the shuttle program is over NASA is dissasembiling the fleet of space shuttles and sending them to be displayed around the county. Endeavour will be sent to California to be displayed at the Califonia Science Center. NASA has one remaining shuttle, Atlantis which will stay in Florida and be displayed at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex.

Below are some photos I took while out at the Shuttle Landing Facility at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Merritt Island, Florida.

The Bottle Cap "Tripod" Mount

Since digital camera are getting cheaper and cheaper and easier for people to obtain I wanted to make this quick tutorial of a product I saw on the internet. You can find the bottle cap pod for as cheap as $6.00, but you can easily make one yourself for $2.00 and under 5 mins.

supplies:
Drill
1/4in drill bit
1/4in washer
1/4in screw
bottle cap

Step 1.
Take bottle cap and drill a 1/4in hole in the center.

Step 2.
Take 1/4in screw and place 1/4in washer over screw.

Step 3.
Place screw and washer into bottle cap from the bottom upwards

Step 4.
     Screw camera into bottle cap

Step 5.
Screw camera and cap onto bottle and start shooting.

This bottle cap tripod works great with compact point and shoot cameras or smaller DSLR cameras. you can also use it with an external flash for different lighting effects.

Hope you enjoyed this quick DIY tutorial on how to make a bottle cap tripod.

Hurricanes and Lightning

The summer month of August is almost here and we are right in the middle of hurrican season, and we don't mean the football team! Hurricane season makes for some great photography. Last year, Hurricane Irene pushed up the East Coast. In Florida, the wind gusts were between 20 and 50 MPH while the waves were 5-12 ft high. Our first thought was "To the beach"! We arrived at the beach around 5 am and watched in awe at the swelling waves. A few surfers were out and we caught some great images, as you may remember from our Hurrican Irene Gallery on our website www.perronephotography.com. So far this year, we have had only one Tropical Storm, Debbie. Unfortunately, we did not have a chance to make it to the beach in pursuit of the perfect waves Debbie created. Living near the East Coast, there will be many chances to make up for missing Debbie. Tropical Storms frequent our summers in Florida. The image below is of Hurricane Irene from last year, taken at the Cocoa Beach Pier.

American Independence

Photo taken from parking lot of Cape Canaveral Hospital, Cape Canaveral, Florida

The Fourth of July represents all of the freedoms our country is based on. Throughout the years, Americans have continued celebrate our victory in various ways; with the most popular being a BBQ with family and friends, fireworks, and great food. When you celebrate the Fourth of July, you are not just throwing a party; you are acknowledging your freedom and the sacrifices made by those who have kept you, and continue to keep you safe.

The Fourth of July is a great day for photographers to capture some amazing images. Fireworks are made in a variety of eye catching colors and shapes. Below are some tips for taking great images of fireworks so you can remember the sight for years to come.

Photo taken from parking lot of Cape Canaveral Hospital, Cape Canaveral, Florida

Tips for photographing fireworks;

 Equipment:

1: Camera

2: Shutter release cable or self-timer on camera

3: Tripod or a sturdy flat surface to set your camera on

Place your camera on the tripod. Attach a shutter release cable or set the camera’s self-timer for 2-5 seconds to help eliminate camera shake.

Set your ISO to 100 or up to 200.

Adjust your cameras shutter speed anywhere from 1 second to 5 seconds, with your aperture between F8 to F22, or lens’ smallest aperture setting.

Remember: The smaller your aperture is set, the more depth of field your image will have. Also, keep in mind that the smaller the aperture setting, the longer your shutter speed will be.

Perrone Photography loves to see Amercian Photography. When you photograph your Fourth of July images, be sure to share them us! Perrone Photography is holding a contest for the best photograph from the Fourth of July 2012. The image may be anything pertaining to July Fourth Celebrations. The image must be taken by the participant.  The winner will receive a free one-hour studio session for you and up to three family members. Please submit your images via email to info@perronephotography.com no later than July 9, 2012. The winner will be announced by July 11, 2012. However you choose to celebrate, always remember to be safe and to be responsible for the safety of those around you. Happy Fourth of July from Perrone Photography!
